Appalachian Trail, VT
In Vermont, the AT recently gained some national press for a bill that designates almost 42,000 acres in the Green Mountain National Forest as wilderness, which provides the highest level of protection to the land. Included in the designation are Glastenbury Mountain in southern Vermont, as well as the Lye Brook, Peru Peak and Big Branch wilderness areas. The bill also provided new wilderness designations in New Hampshire in the White Mountain National Forest.
