The good news is that the weather has been better. We’ve had some rain, but most importantly the temperature has dropped back down to normal summer levels (e.g. not above 90!).
Coupled with cooler nights (in the 60′s), this means the river temps. have come back down to fishable levels. The lower White River was 66 degrees today when I took out Fran and Alex.
Trout fishing is still best in the early AM or late PM most places. And up river will probably be better than the lower river in most cases. BWO’s have been hatching in the evenings.
For example, fish the upper White instead of the lower White if you want to catch trout. Buggers, Muddlers and nymphs will out produce dry flies in most cases.
Or fish the brooks, where the water temp. is 62 degrees (Alex caught a really nice Brookie today on a tan, Elk Wing Caddis dry). You might also catch a few Atlantic salmon in several local rivers.
Bass fishing continues to be good on the Connecticut, lower White and local lakes & ponds. Poppers, mice or frog patterns for surface feeders, or strip a bugger or muddler thru for sub-surface.
