Fishing Report 5/8

by Ron on May 8, 2011

Happy Mother’s Day!

Fishing on the Mascoma River is still your best bet.  The trout are active at the inlet in Enfield.  Smelt patterns for fly fisherman, and Rapalas for the spincaster.  The river below the dam is still a bit high and cold (less than 50 degrees yesterday).  Drew caught a couple of nice trout on our trip yesterday.

The Connecticut River below the Wilder dam has been muddy and unfishable all weekend.

Other possibilities include the Sugar River or various trout ponds (such as MacIntosh pond in Royalton, VT for example).

Good news on the fishing front… most rivers are fishing well right now. Reports in the shop from the Black and Ottauquechee rivers in VT are good. A customer even submitted a pic of a 17″ Rainbow caught on the White yesterday. And the Mascoma remains good. Water temp. is up to 53 degrees and Blue Winged Olives are hatching.
