This has been a good week. Most rivers and ponds are fishing well right now! Water temps. are warming up (53-55 degrees) and insects are hatching (Quill Gordons, Hendricksons & black Stoneflies) .
See below for details by river:
Black River (VT): Hot right now. Fish small pheasant tail nymphs in the slower pockets and slack water. It is always busy on weekends though.
Mascoma River (NH): The inlet is still the place to go. We’ve been catching trout (all 3 species) on streamers. Olive is the color of choice. Down in the fly fishing only section it is a little slow. We’ve caught a few Brook trout on Quill Gordon emergers.
Ottauquechee River (VT): Actually looks a little low for this early in the year. They must be generating power at all the dams. But reports are coming in that fish are being caught.
Sugar River (NH): Not many reports yet from the Sugar, but should be fishing well this time of year.
White River (VT): Shaping up nicely. The upper White is clear and very fishable (Rainbows on nymphs), while the lower river is still a little cloudy but fishable (try the deep holes with a sink tip line and weighted stonefly nymph or black woolly bugger).
