If you are still fishing you need to pay close attention to the reg books this time of year, as some rivers are closed to fishing.
In NH, the designated trout ponds and fly fishing only ponds closed Oct. 15th. Other ponds are open. Here are a few rivers to be aware of: Mascoma River, Fly Fishing Only section, closed to fishing on Oct. 15th; Newfound River, Fly Fishing Only section, is OPEN until Oct. 31st; Sugar River, Fly Fishing Only section, is OPEN until Nov. 30th. In general, trout season ended Oct. 15th unless otherwise noted in the reg book.
In VT, trout season remains open until Oct. 31st. After that date the lower White River is open all year (catch and release only).
Good luck to the hardy souls who venture out!
PS – Still time to send a pic (doesn’t have to be a fish pic) for our October contest. Winner gets a $25 gift certificate!

Last year I stopped at your shop and we briefly discussed bird hunting. Later, while traveling to Fryeburg, ME I was on route 25 near E. Haverhill. Where the power line crosses the road there is a large ridge on the south side of the highway separted from the highway by a large green field and perhaps another road. The side hill looked to me to be an excellent place to prospect for grouse and woodcock. If you are in that area with the dogs, check it out. And if you do, I would appreciate your comments I hunt exclusively in VT. Thanks
Randle – I only hunt in VT also, but several of the other staff (Steve, Rick and Ben) here in the store hunt in NH. Had my first woodcock of the season for lunch the other day… yummy. I know not everybody likes the stronger flavor, but I actually prefer them to grouse. – Ron
