How low can it go? No I’m not talking about contra dancing (e.g. the Limbo). Unfortunately I am referring to the water levels. As everybody knows, this has been a HOT and DRY summer!!! Not good for trout or fishing in general. Ben and Chris both report very little action over the past weekend.
A look at the USGS stream gauges http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nh/nwis/rt will tell you why. Most rivers are “below normal” levels for this time of year. A few, like the Sugar (NH) and Ottauquechee (VT), are extremely low.
With cubic feet per second (cfs) flows this low it is hard to find enough current to even get a good drift. My only suggestion would be to go north where the flows looks a little better. Locally, the Connecticut might be fishable in evenings.
Luckily the weather forecast is calling for some rain and cooler temps. this weekend.

Here’s some good news: Salmon are still biting over at Lake Winnipesaukee. Trolling has been producing some nice size fish.
And a customer was in today with a report that trout were rising last night on the West River (SE VT).
Fished the Conn from the point down about a mile.Zero bite,Nothing coming up on top either.Meet another fisherman at the point and he had the same report.Too warm and too low.
